Stress Management for Homebuyers

Are you getting ready to purchase a home?  Want to ease the anxiety of it all?  Here are four strategies that can help:

  1. Prep your financial resources early. Having your money in order can help make the process significantly smoother. Be prepared for your down payment and closing costs, and gather all the documentation you will need to apply for a home loan (W-2s, bank statements, etc.).  Gift funds/letters, 401k accounts and other resources should be within easy reach when details are requested by your lender.

  2. Communicate openly about what you want. Knowing your needs and deal breakers — and communicating them early on — is critical to a hassle-free transaction.

  3. Delegate where possible. You don’t have to do everything on your own; in fact, that will only make the task more stressful. Instead, rely on the experts — your loan officer, home inspector and other pros involved.

  4. Focus on the big picture. There may be hiccups along the way, but home ownership is worth the extra effort. Keeping things in perspective can help you navigate the ups and downs of the journey.
